Criminal Defense
John McWilliam’s practice is devoted exclusively to criminal defense in North Carolina state courts.
Over the years, John has represented individuals accused of murder, rape, robbery, burglary, larceny, kidnapping, assaults (all of them), B&E, gun charges, sex offenses, white collar crimes, property crimes, drug offenses (from trafficking to possession of marijuana), traffic charges, other felonies and misdemeanors not listed here, and, of course, DWI. In short, just about any crime in the book.
John disapproves of letter writing (solicitation) and of pleading people guilty in courtrooms that the state cannot prove its case, which is why he does neither.
Americans enjoy the greatest freedoms and protections of their fundamental rights of any people on earth…on paper. But those rights, when ignored or unprotected, aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. The fourth amendment to the U.S. constitution protects the rights against unreasonable searches and seizure. Yet, every day, the police set up checkpoints to seize citizens going about their business without a shred of suspicious behavior. Every day the police are patting people down for no reason other than where they are and what they look like. And every day, the courts are letting them get away with it. These are the battles of the criminal defense lawyer.
